My wordpad is not working. Just start happening the other day.

I tried running regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Mshtml.dll. It responded
with the error: C;\WINDOWS\System32\Mshtml.dll was loaded, but the
DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered.

what's wrong with my PC? Oh yes, wordpad seems to work in safe mode.

Why. Any error message?

Who told you to do that. Note the this file cannot be registered that
way since IE7.

If Wordpad works in Safe Mode, the problem is caused by another software
(malware) most likely.

I don't know why it is not working. It comes up when you click on a file
associated to it and you can see the file. You try to scroll or modify the
file and it hems and haws around and then just says not responding and says
it has to end. No error messages that I remember.

I was a little worried that I might be corrupting my files. But I opened
one of the same files which resides on a shared drive on another computer and
the other computer opened it just fine in wordpad. I associated these files
to OpenOffice on the computer that Wordpad is not working on right now. I
would much rather use Wordpad though. Hope I can get it fixed.

Thanks d-d

I don't know what I did but it is now working. I think associating all the
rtf files with OpenOffice write and then back again solved the problem. I do
not know what else it could have been. =) Any technical ideas on why this
fixed the problem?

Detlev,

A guy from the Toshiba help desk told me over the phone to run this bat file:

regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Appwiz.cpl
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Jscript.dll
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Msi.dll
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\System\Ole DB\Oledb32.dll"
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\System\Ado\Msado15.dll"
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Mshtmled.dll

Everything worked except for the 2nd command. Will this mess my XP MCE up?
I would like to know if there is anything I need to do now? Or is this just
not work with IE7. I usually use FireFox. Thanks for any help. These are
my first posts on this site.

No idea since OpenOffice is installed on one of my systems only for testing
purposes and there are no such problems. Anyway, glad to hear that your
problem has been resolved.

Detlev,

A guy from the Toshiba help desk told me over the phone to run this bat file:

Well, let's see if Wordpad.exe has any dependencies regarding the files below:
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Appwiz.cpl

No dependency.
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Mshtml.dll

Dependency exists.
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Jscript.dll

No dependency.
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Msi.dll

Dependency exists.
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\System\Ole DB\Oledb32.dll"

No dependency.
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\System\Ado\Msado15.dll"

No dependency.
regsvr32 %systemroot%\System32\Mshtmled.dll

No dependency.
Everything worked except for the 2nd command.

Anyway, that advice did not make too much sense since there are almost no
dependencies.
Will this mess my XP MCE up?

No, that advice does not harm and does not help either.
I would like to know if there is anything I need to do now?

No, the problem seems to be resolved apparently.
Or is this just not work with IE7. I usually use FireFox.

Well, the 2nd command worked when there was IE6 installed. It does not
work anymore in general when there is IE7 installed because that file
belongs to IE and has been replaced with a newer version. No matter what
browser you're actually using.
Thanks for any help.

You're certainly welcome.
