Word Pad Default When Viewing Attachments

Why is it that attachments are opened with word pad as the default program in
Windows Mail and how can that be changed? It's very annoying especially when
it comes to opening photos.

Go to Default Programs, either on the Start menu, or in Control Panel>set
your default programs>a list will appear>select windows mail and ensure it
has all its defaults set.

Also select Windows Photo Gallery and do the same.

If Default Programs does not solve your problem for some type of
attachments, do the following:
Save the attachment, making a note of where it gets saved.
Outside of Windows Mail, navigate to the saved file, right-click on it,
and select "Open With". On the next screen pick the program that you
always want to open that type of document. Click OK.
