Word in Safe Mode

My Word 2002 always tells me an error was encountered, and needs to open in
Safe Mode. Older threads on here gave links to other forums which suggested
removing disabled items, uninstalling, then reinstalling, none of which have
worked for me. I am looking for any other suggestions anyone may have.
