Wont Open

I installed MS Antispyware on two machines. Neither of
them wont open. The install was fine but when i double
click to open it all i get is the splash screen. Is there
a known bug? A similarity between the two computers is
that I am using a custom theme. Will this affect
the "authenticity" of the machines causing the app not to
run?

Thanks--can you say more about what version of Windows (xp--home, pro, what
SP level) and where you got your theme--and which one it is?

This is most likely a bug--it wouldn't surprise me at all if the current UI
was not theme-aware at all--but it may be useful to be able to replicate
this.

I don't have a suggestion for a workaround except to ditch the theme and
find out, I'm afraid.

Justin, I've just installed MS Antispyware also on my
Windows XP machine. Same problem, it won't open. Please
e-mail me if you get any information on how to open, or
what we need to do. I'll certainly appreciate it.

Ive download the theme from the net. It is a windows
tablet pc theme (Energy Bliss). I am running windows xp
pro sp2. I also tried giants software i found on the net
and that didnt open either. I dont know if it has to do
with theme anymore.

Ok - so you are running a Tablet theme on a standard PC? That's something I
could test--I'll look for it. If Giant's product also had the same issue,
I'd say there's a good chance that the theme is the problem. There should
be a major shift of UI at some point in this beta--presumably beta2--so
re-testing then would be the thing to do, I think.

I don't know--I downloaded the theme and installed it on a laptop, and I'm
not having any trouble with Microsoft Antispyware. Google Deskbar blew up
once, though. I'm not sure I did it right though--I put about 5 of the
files--the ones that were clearly "data" in the themes folder--I didn't put
the setup file or the .dll files there. I'm not sure whether the .dll's are
required for some functionality--I see that Luna has some 'dll's of its own.

I have the dll files installed. Dont know if it makes a
difference. For some reason I dont think its the theme
but its worth a shot.

It may not be the theme. I'll go back at some point and put those in to see
what changes, though. Any other ideas for commonalities between the
machines?

If you run MSCONFIG and shut down all third-party services and startup items
(disconnect from the Internet if you are using a software firewall!) does
that change anything?

J

Justin

Yup I tried that and nothing. Has to be something
installed on my machine that doesnt let me run it.

Well - it could also be a beta bug of some kind. I've been assuming not
because it was both machines, but.... Did we look at the errors.log file in
the Microsoft Antispyware install directory to see if there are any obvious
clues--ocx or .dll files that won't register, etc?

I checked the error log and find out the the comdlg32.ocx
was replaced with another version. I had to replace it
with the original and then reregister it.

Hope that helps anyone who may have had the same problem.

Thanks for the help Bill.
