Won't let me Disable

I am trying to use Windows Defender to disable some startup programs. When I
highlight the programs I want to disable I cannot click the disable button.
A majority of the programs are like this. What do I need to do in order to
remove these programs from startup? The main ones I am trying to remove are:

MusicMatch
Explorer.exe
QuickTime
There is one program that says "N/A" the file name is NDSTray.exe (should I
be removing this one?)

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You can't disable explorer (and why on God's green earth would you want to?).
It's a waste of time to disable Quicktime; it will just put a new run key
the next time you use quicktime. If you don't want to see the "Q" in the
tray, then disable from Quicktime (use Edit->Quicktime preferences->Advanced
and uncheck tray icon). For NDStray:

Defender should allow you to disable NDSTray and Music Match. Keep in mind
that many programs have options that allow you to disable running when
Windows Start. That should be the preferred method. If you are running
under Vista, removing the programs using Windows Defender or Msconfig will
give you a UAC block message. Don't disable stuff without first checking
what they do. Use your favorite search engine to find out.

I appreciate your help Mr Cat......The main program that is starting that I
want to disable may not be explorer. It's the one that you can open up by
right clicking on the start button and picking "explore." For some reason
that pops up everytime I start the cpu. It started doing that when I
downloaded Mozilla Firefox. Is that the same program you're thinking of?

I really don't know what you are talking about. Right clicking the Start
button and clicking Explore just gives you a directory tree. I've installed
Mozilla Firefox and don't know of anything it would produce. Maybe try
uninstalling Mozilla Firefox and see if it goes away. BTW, I always try
installing stuff from the vendors site, in this case mozilla.org. Task
Manager Applications would be useful. You might also look at Start->All
Programs->Startup. Trend Micro HiJackThis lists all processes started, but
the output might be intimidating.

As to the Explorer window popping up, check your Start Menu, and go to the
Startup folder. Delete any shortcut to Explorer, shortcut to a folder, or
shortcut to My Computer, if one is found. Also check Folder Options in
Control Panel, and make sure, on the View tab, that "Restore previous folder
window at logon" is not checked.

I should add that sometimes a shortcut can be accidently drug into the
Startup folder in the Start Menu, if "Drag and Drop" is enabled in Customize
Start Menu. If you find a shortcut mentioned previously, and want to keep
it, just drag it out of that folder.
