Won't Import ANYTHING?!

My Windows Movie Maker used to import anything, but now it won't!I have no
idea why, everytime I try to import something, a box pops up and says:
"C:\Documents and Settings\Kylie\My Documents\Downloads\Fozzy-Enemy mp3 could
not be imported. Unspecified Error.

Any idea why it's not working?

Mucho thanks

Wow you had this problem 3 times in the last 6 months too?

i've had this same problem and it's driving me nuts. i did one batch of mp3
files @ 160kpbs before i learned the joys of 192kpbs and now VBR, but it
won't recognize any of my files...

can anyone help me?

Well I've never run into a situation where I couldn't import ANY of my MP3's
but I know that MP3's will occasionally cause problems with WMM. Try
converting one or two of them to WAV format and see if that works. You have
my curiosity peaked I would like to study the effects of kbps in WMM. It is
possible that this is the reason some MP3's work and others do not.

ya...i'm not sure - i know that converting to .wav format works fine...it's
weird. i was thinking about the kpbs issue as well - could it be that WMM
only allows for a certain kpbs? if so, screw it...i'll just use .wav files,
because my VBR mp3's sound better than my 160kpbs CBR!

thanks...

That is what I am wondering as well but unfortunately haven't had time the
last few days, since this subject came up, to test that theory.

Having the same problem. MM won't even import sample movie files that came
with the product. Is a re-install the only option?

Unfortunately if it won't open "anything" then reinstalling is probably the
best option.
It could be a codec issue but if it's affecting any file you try to open
then that's likely more than one codec so reinstalling will tell you for
sure if the problem was/is the program or a codec or more likely a virus
issue due to the installation of a bad codec.

Attempted a reinstall however, couldn't "remove" previous version of MM so
installd over the top of old. Still didn't work. Any other suggestions??

W

Wojo

Well you can uninstall but the only way to do that is to uninstall SP2.
But other than that I really don't have another suggestion other than
reinstalling XP and I never suggest that until *nobody* has any suggestions
anymore.

Has anyone been able to solve this problem? Or has Microsoft posted a fix?

Thanks, Keith.

Thanks for the note. Not sure how it can be an installation issue since WMM
worked fine for the first 2 mths. Not keen to de/re-install SP2 given a
previous experience in loading XP on my machine.

Your right in your case it isn't an installation problem but it appears to
be a corruption issue. You can't really nail it down to a codec if you
aren't able to import *any* type of file whether it be still image, audio,
or any type of video. So your case is different but we have seen so many
issues lately with either a bad install or corruption to the point of
needing to reinstall that I wish Microsoft made it easier to do. I always
find myself recommending System Restore and that doesn't always work plus
sometimes causes problems with other programs you installed if you choose a
restore point that goes back too far.
