So if you had done what I told you it would

Give it up David...he likes me the best.

Don't get bent...it's a joke....)

he likes me the best

That's why he needs correcting. I'm tall, thin, and without a beard. He should prefer ME.

I'm handsome.

Thanks for the clairifaction and the help, I am here to learn and will take
it (by the way John, you and Yves have helped me out often).

That's not sarcasm. Sarcasm would be (and this is an example only - don't get offended)

Make sure when you do what I said in help TO NOT READ THE PAGE.

Help should be your first point of call. My answers, where help is going to be useful, is to say what to do in help.

If you post with terms in your post I try the terms in help and see if it comes up with an intelligent answer. I don't expect people to search on terms they have not heard off. If I knew that movie maker could be found if searching for wmv (the filetype it generates [this is a non real example]) I wouldn't give help directions as it's not in your post so I can't expect you or anyone to know that. The point is to show how to fix problems so next time you type in help and get your answer within 30 seconds rather than spread over days.

Help also searches MS web site. Type an error message in help while online and if MS knows the answer then so will you.

Sorry about that but I was not at that computer at the time and it is harder
to follow that posts on web based forum (which is what I have to use on this
computer). I didn't know that about the " All programs can be started from
Help." Now I learned something else. Thanks for your help even if you are
being sarcastic. I appreciate the help and input.

Happy to be of service.

BTW I haven't seen Yves in about a month...
is he on vacation or something? Does anyone
know?

Hi John, not sure if you will see this but will try here frist. I did as you
suggested (after I found Movie Maker) and it make the .wmv file. But when I
play it all the colors are wrong. You can not see the images as in the .avi
file. Do you have an idea of what I am missing? I have media player 9, should
I update it to 10? Or do you have any other suggestions.

Excellent! I hope you find the
solution you're looking for.

Hi Walt,

This is beginning to get confusing.

Which files are not playing? .avi or .wmv?

Just wondering why you need the .wmv files?

Did the .avi file PapaJohn converted to .wmv
for you play sucessfully?

OK maybe I should start over. I have a A70 Canon digital camera. It will
allow me to take short movie clips. They save as .avi files, they are rather
large files. I can play them at home when they are .avi. I wanted to convert
them to .mvw files to make them smaller in size. I used Movie Maker to do
that. When I try to watch the converted file at home with Windows Media
Player the clip is all mess up in color looks nothing like the .avi file. I
can bring the converted file to work, play on Windows Media Player and it
plays just fine? That is what I don't understand. What is my problem. Canon
says I need to install QuickTime I have had other .wvm files that work? I
don't know anything about codec's so don't know if that is the problem.
The file that Papa John converted and sent to me works fine here at work,
but at home it is the same problem. Do you understand what I am talking about
now? I don't know if I have to reinstall something or reregister something or
?

That's the key piece of info I wasn't sure of either... did the wmv file I
made play at home?... as it didn't, the issue would be with the Windows XP
setup, not with the codec needed to play the Motion JPEG file from the
camera.

That gets you away from the issues of MM2 and the codec needed to play the
Motion JPEG file, and into... are you running Windows XP SP2? If not, then
upgrading to it might resolve the issues.

At work isn't the place you're having the problem... so yes, the GSpot info
is similar to what I'm seeing... but my GSpot is version 2.5 something, and
yours is 2.2 something... so I can't compare them exactly.

GSpot will assess the file using the codecs on the system... so it would be
more meaningful to see the GSpot info from your home system, where you are
having the problem.

I'm glad you sorted it out.

It's always a good idea to keep your
system up to date and well maintained.
