Import the .avi file into Windows Movie Maker.
(File / Import Into Collections)

Drag the file to the time line.

Go to...File / Save Movie File / My Computer /
Next...choose a title and a save location / Next /
Tick..."Best quality for playback on my computer" /
Next / Finish.

Hi John, I went home and looked for Movie Maker, I cannot find it on the
computer. I have a Gateway that came installed with XP Home SP2. I did a
google search for movie maker and it says that it is part of SP2. Cannot seem
to find how I can download just Movie Maker or where to find it if it is on
the computer. I also did a search on the computer with no results. You have
any ideas (or anyone else). The computer did not come with restore disks
there is a seperate partition and I made a backup DVD from that. Any help
would be appreciated.

I did that and it explains about Movie Maker but not where it is. It say that
it should be under accories. Not there.

If you have the Movie Maker 2.1 program...
you can launch it by entering moviemk.exe
in the Start / Run field and click OK or press
Enter..

If you do not have it...maybe the following
article may offer some help:

What can I do if I upgrade to Windows
XP SP2 and Windows Movie Maker 2.1
is not installed successfully?

Sorry John, I didn't see your post to the same URL as I received from Harry.
I am at work currently and will try that when I get home. I also called
Gateway, they said that if I get the SP2 CD from Microsoft I should be able
to install just the Movie Maker part of it. Do you think that is true?

I feel like a complete IDIOT, I typed in moviemk.exe at the run like you
suggested. Up pops movie maker? I don't know if it "Old Age" or need new
glassess? I sure didn't see it there before? Thank You all for the help and
information. Still don't understand why a search for movie maker didn't turn
anything up?

Good news! I'm glad you found the program.

In searching for Movie Maker...there must
be a space between the words, maybe you
searched for... moviemaker?

If you need an icon for Movie Maker try this:

Go to...Start / Search...

Search for moviemk.exe

Right click moviemk.exe and from the menu...
choose...Send To / Desktop (create shortcut).

Thank you John. That is excatly how I was searching. Thanks for that info. I
did create a shortcut on the desktop. Still don't know how I didn't see it in
the programs? Thanks to everyone for all your help and suggestions. This
fourum is a real help and learning place.

So if you had done what I told you it would have been fixed then. All programs can be started from Help.

Sorry about that but I was not at that computer at the time and it is harder
to follow that posts on web based forum (which is what I have to use on this
computer). I didn't know that about the " All programs can be started from
Help." Now I learned something else. Thanks for your help even if you are
being sarcastic. I appreciate the help and input.

That's not sarcasm. Sarcasm would be (and this is an example only - don't get offended)

Make sure when you do what I said in help TO NOT READ THE PAGE.

Help should be your first point of call. My answers, where help is going to be useful, is to say what to do in help.

If you post with terms in your post I try the terms in help and see if it comes up with an intelligent answer. I don't expect people to search on terms they have not heard off. If I knew that movie maker could be found if searching for wmv (the filetype it generates [this is a non real example]) I wouldn't give help directions as it's not in your post so I can't expect you or anyone to know that. The point is to show how to fix problems so next time you type in help and get your answer within 30 seconds rather than spread over days.

Help also searches MS web site. Type an error message in help while online and if MS knows the answer then so will you.
