I had a stuck email in my outbox. actually when I looked in my sent
box...the mail had been sent BUT I had exactly the same problem as all the
people here with the error message. I downloaded the WMUtil program and I
clicked the clear outbox button and it said mail was deleted... I didn't
believe it...but I looked and sure enough it was gone! It this utility
program not working for all of you???

I have a new computer...and I have a week or so to send it back if I hate
it. I went through hell with windows 95 when it came out. (for 3 years) I
never want to go through that again.
Honestly, should I send this compueter back and find one that has xp on it?

what is your opinion? Lana

WMUtil is 100% effective for clearing stuck Outbox messages.
Unfortunately it does nothing for messages stuck in other folders.

If you had that much trouble with Windows 95, it indicates that you
probably shouldn't mess with a new OS until after Service Pack 1 comes
out. A new OS will have rough spots, and it takes a bit of investment in
time and patience to research the proper workarounds.

It's getting hard to find a new computer with XP on it.

It works fine for all those who don't mind following the instructions.

Gary.... I don't know what to do...I mispoke it wasn't 95 I had trouble
with....I had ok luck with win 95 and wonderful luck with my most recent HP
computer with XP. It is stll being used in our home business.
But, I remember absolutely hating my dell with win 98 on it.. and dell had
one word for me every dang time I called....reformat. I did have other
issues with the machine that I couldn't get dell to help me with until I had
called 50 times...and then the hard drive crashed right after my 3 yr
warranty was up. I remember it got to the point that I actually tried to
be gentle with clicking the mouse for fear the dreaded blue screen of death
would pop up....it gave me night mares! I know Dell does offer either vista
or XP on their computers right now .... But I was afraid to purchase
another Dell and one that XP on it at this point. I was afraid that xp
would be extinct soon and changes would be made in software and etc and my
machine would soon become very out dated before I was ready to purchase again.

when I saw the amount of posts here just on the stuck email issues , I about
freaked....
what other issues are a common problem with WIN Vista?? I would like to
know what I have to look forward to.. Have you had a number of problems with
vista?
I have an HP duo core 2..wireless with media center.
thanks! Lana

Just like cars, sometimes a specific computer you buy can be a lemon
and it will have lots of problems no matter what you do. I had one HP
laptop like that, but two other HP/Compaq laptops I've owned were very
dependable, so it is the luck of the draw.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the number of problems you see
reported here. People who have no Vista problems don't post here,
and they may very well constitute 95% of all Vista users. The small
percentage of people who have problems tend to complain loudly,
and that is what you're seeing here. That said, there is no doubt that
Vista's Windows Mail has a few nasty bugs. But it's not the end of
the world. If Windows Mail doesn't work out for you, switch to one
of the many other available email programs. Aside from WM, Vista
has been relatively trouble free for me.

thanks for your help Gary!
There are a couple things that I wanted to mention. One...I have only used
Vista for a week...BUT the problem happened with in hours of doing an update.
So how important are updates as it may be them that caused the problems... I
suspicioned that with my win 98 problem.
TWO.... I have a LOT of email coming in...I am a paintshop pro user and
belong to several yahooGroups dealing with posting tutorial results and
downloading picture tubes, brushes, masks etc.. It seems like my email
problem could be more of an issue with me than some since I can have 100
emails or more coming in my email box in a day. ( I have made several
inboxes using the message rules) I used to dearch for my DBX files and go
into my dbx files on previous computers and actually delete the mail boxes
listed. They remade themselves when I opened up my email program (outlook
express)again. That way I knew all mail files were gone and nothing was
slowing up my mailboxes. Can that be done with win Vista?? That would clean
out a stuck email I would think. But, I didn't find any dbx files in a search
on this computer.
Thanks

Windows Mail doesn't use dbx files.

It is probably coincidental that your mail problems started within hours
of an update.

With the amount of mail you have coming in, you can't afford to be
diddling around with a buggy mail program.
I suggest you switch to something that has a good track record, like
Outlook or Thunderbird.

I have never heard of thunderbird and it seems like I tried Outlook in the
past and there was an issue with inserting files as pictures and/or inserting
attachments. Our groups do both regularly. what happened to good old
outlook express? or is windows mail just renamed?

I had another incident happen to this computer this morning. I had it in
the sleep mode...(which HP recommends instead of shutting it off) and I heard
it running....so I tried the sleep button and wiggling my mouse....but
nothing I did could get it to come up on my monitor. So finally I tried to
shut it off and nothing happened....so finally, I had to turn off the power
at the surge protector. when I turned it back on...I got the scare of my
life...the screen that asks if you want to start it normally or in the SAFE
MODE. OMG I haven't had that since my nightmare pc. Do you think that
shows some propensity for a major problem brewing? I find it odd that the
screen popped up for a simple reboot with shutting off the power. It always
meant something serious before.
thanks again! Lana

Wrong group (Windows Mail) -- try the vista.general and/or
vista.performance_maintenance group.
