WMP10 wiping out my sound card drivers

recently I used WMP10 to play a midi file, I then used musicmatch to play a
different file and got silence. I had to reinstall my soundcard drivers to
get my sound back, I'm using xp pro the latest svs packs and updates, and
just to test things I tried WMP10 again, sure enough I lost sound,
reinstalled my sound card drives I got music, what's the deal??

Oh yeah, my sound card is creative sound blaster live, I know it's old and
not supported anymore, during this I found my disgnostics software (creative)
wouldn't work either (not found)

What's your question?

Is your audio adaptor integrated in the mobo? Do you have another adaptor
you can try?

Nope, seperate IDE sound card. I built a new pc to replace this one, as it's
aging, ie the sound card is no longer supported. and it has a slower CPU.

I was considering getting a new sound card, haven't checked out the prices
recently, so will have to do my research, I guess.

Your "tinkering" caused the problem. You figure it out. Why
blame WMP 10? It is not the culprit.
