Dual sound card?

I have a PC which has all my MP3's on it, however this PC is used to
drive my excercise machine from http://www.ifit.com/. There is a cable
from the audio out of my soundcard into the excercise machine and the
website output audio signals to control the machine.

I would like to be able to play my music whilst working out, is windows
capable of running two sound card? If I could select which soundcard to
use in my audi player and use soundcard 2, then have the default
soundcard play everythin else, would this work?

You might do better to invest in a cheap MP3 player and use that to control
the machine, I think what you suggest might be possible but there are two
issues. First there may be hardware conflicts and second it would depend on
how both the music player software and the machine control software are
written. If neither has an option to chose which card to use then both will
try and use the default card.

I dread to think what would happen if playing Led Zeppelin causes your
treadmill to run at 30 MPH so there also a serious safety issue involved.
For what it would cost even an old PC to control the machine would be an
easier option.
