Wireless Keeps Saying "One or More Networks Available"

Just did a fresh XP install on my wife's Thinkpad. I can connect it to my
wireless Linksys router (with WEP encription). But, after 1-2 minutes, it
disconnects and displays a message, "One or more networks are available."

Although the Thinkpad detects several wireless networks (probably neighbors'
routers), the Linksys is set up as the preferred wireless network in XP. So,
why does the notebook keep looking for other networks?

Hi

That can happen when your signal get so low that your Wireless become hardly
functional and it would suggest to use other Networks with stronger signal.

The Solution can be either very simple, or in case of strong electronic
noise that cannot be controlled by you it might be that there is No
solution. ( http://www.ezlan.net/wbars.html ).

If you can switch to WPA, (WEP is less stable than WPA).

Try all the 11 channels, and choose the one that look the best.

Few other “tricks” can be found here, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#sudden

Check the Authentication options in your wireless network adapter's settings
and make sure that you don't have 802.1x authentication enabled. You'll
find this by opening the Network Connections icon in Control Panel,
right-clicking your wireless adapter there, selecting Properties, then the
Authentication tab.

Yes, that did the trick! I unchecked 802.1x and my wireless has been working
flawlessly.
