wireless always gets automatic private address

John Yeh

My laptop was working fine yesterday and today it keeps getting a
169.254.x.x IP address and automatic private address. I know this
means that it's not communicating with the cable modem. So I restarted
my cable modem and my router and my laptop but it's still getting the
169.254.x.x IP. I have a comp that is wired that is working fine. Any
other suggestiongs?

Are the WEP encryption settings right on the laptop? I've seen
Windows XP suddenly forget them, requiring that I re-enter the key
length, key, etc.
