WinXP Splash Screen Size

We have many PCs (desktops and laptops) running XP SP2. All are set to a
screen resolution of 1024x768.

At startup, most of the computers show the Windows XP splash screen full
screen. A handful of the computers displays the splash screen in, what
appears to be, a 640x480 window centered in the screen. The remainder of the
screen is black.

On these computers pre-startup utilities ... such as the disc error-check
.... also run in a small window.

What setting is different in these computers?

Sorry to seem dumb, but ... change which settings and where?

I do 'get' the 16->32 bit issue, by the way.

Kelly,

The registry settings you suggest are the same on all computers. That is,
Shell Icon BPP is 16, and Shell Icon Size is 32. I also tried changing the
Desktop color level in Settings to 16-bit but the splash screen size was
unaffected on the computers I tested.
