Startup Window Size

We have many PCs (desktops and laptops) running XP SP2. All are set to a
screen resolution of 1024x768.

At startup, most of the computers show the Windows XP splash screen or, if
selected, the chkdsk error-check utility, in full screen. A handful of the
computers run these in (what appears to be) a 640x480 window centered in the
screen.

What setting is different in these computers?

Different vendors setting things up in different ways, differing
VGA defaults, etc. etc. etc.. Nothing to worry about.
