winxp does not see epson cx3200

my friend always seems to have problems with his computer.
a few months ago, the computer stopped 'seeing' the epson cx3200 which had
been working fine til then.
i reinstalled xp and then all was well.

they have had more virus problems again and the cx3200 is unusable again.
when i try to install the drivers, the printer cannot be found on any usb
port i try.

i really don't feel like reinstalling xp again so i hope someone has some
troubleshooting ideas for me.

thanks

that was the first problem this time around.
i did restart the print spooler and was able to install a network laser
printer.
but the epson usb printer could not be located.
i tried different ports and a different cable.
no joy.

You may need to reinstall the drivers, or do so in a different order
than they were loaded/installed the last time. Sometimes drivers
corrupt or over-write one another.

If the printer cannot be found, it may be because you installed the
driver with the printer connected. Some USB printers will not install
the proper driver parts if they are connected to the USB port during
installation. Also, you probably don;t want to use the in box XP
drivers, so if that becomes an option refuse it and indicate you have
your own driver disk.

If nothing works, you may need to remove hidden files and registry
listings, and for this you likely will need a list from Epson which will
show all the modules and registry changes that the driver installation
creates. You may need to email them, or try to find it via an internet
source.
