Brand new Epson CX3200...!!!

W

Wes Whitlock

Hi,

I just bought an Epson CX3200 (all-in-one jobby). All the functions seemed
to work well right off the mark, then it started having trouble printing
simple pages.

A single page e-mail took 11 pages to get done (3 pages with the top, middle
and bottom third of the e-mail, respectively and 8 blank pages
intermingled). A warning window sometimes popped up with "communication
error" so my son suggested switching to a different USB port. It seems to
work now, but so does the webcam plugged into the printer's original port.

My question is: Is this printer particularly sensitive to a ginchy USB port?

If the consensus is that this is the case, I will keep the machine,
otherwise I will take it back soonest.

Thanks for listening,
W.

If your running Windoze 98 yes, I had lots of trouble with USB on that OS..
Had to change ports all the time for my web cam to work..

Actually, I've been running XP for 9 months now with no USB problems...
which is why I find it odd that my brand new printer is having trouble where
no trouble existed before. Hmmmmmmm....

If your luck is like mine, when it comes to windoze, if anything can go
wrong for me it will. When I installed the software for my CX5200 on XP
it threw up errors on every app in the set up.. But, it still worked, go
figure...

Funny thing you should mention problems with every application
installation with the CX5200 printer. I've installed two CX5200s within
the last year. The first was on my in-laws XPHome Dell machine back in
late January. It gave errors on all applications during installation,
but it worked fine. I searched the Epson KB the next day to see if this
would cause them problems in the future. There was a KB article saying
that if this happens, just 'OK' through all error messages, and
everything will be fine.

The next install I did was in September for my self on a similar machine.
I was expecting the same errors, but the install was flawless. I looked
at the install cd, and it was a newer version than the cd that came with
my in-laws printer. I don't know if it was a newer version because
Epson fixed the problem or not, or if I just got lucky with my install.

One other thing...my in-laws Epson develped a problem with the scanner
after a few months. The red panel light kept coming on, and the LCD
panel said 'scanner error'. We would press the Copy button and the red
light went off, and all functions worked except the scanner. I called
Epson, and they told me anytime the red light comes on, this indicates a
hardware problem. To fix this, they told I needed to reset the scanner
travel log. To do this, they had me turn the printer off and push the
scanner slide lock on and off 15 times, wait 30 seconds, and turn the
printer back on. I did this, but within another 30 seconds, the red
light came back on. Since the printer was still covered under the one
year warranty, they are sending out a new printer (at least I think it's
new and not a refurb), and I will return the defective printer once I
receive the replacement one. I hope they include new ink cartridges
(;-).

Sincerely,
Bruce
