Standard Canon operating practice!! I used to own an Canon LBP-800
laser printer (which was only about 1.5 years old at the time) and I
wanted to use it with linux. Canon did not have a driver listed for
linux so I e-mailed them. Their response was that they had did not have
and had no intention of writing a driver for linux for that printer. My
response back was to tell them that if that was their attitude, then
never expect another penny/cent out of my pocket!! On a similar
note.... they never released an XP driver for that printer either....
you have to make do with the Win2K driver and ignore a couple of scary
warnings (for a newbie anyway) when it is installing! Pathetic customer
service...

Since then I have bought two more printers (a laser and a photo quality
printer) and both have been HP. Both work flawlessly with linux
straight out of the box. If HP can do it, then Canon have no excuse.
Also, when I was in the market for a digital camera, Canon would have
been a possibility, but having been bitten once by them..... I bought a
Nikon!!

Someone needs to tell them that this attitude is hurting their business!

I had similar problems with Canon, but not with printers...I never let it
get that far.

I bought a SLR from them several years back and needed a viewfinder cleaned
out because it was not user accessible. I sent it to one of their centers
in Georgia and it came back dirtier than it was when I sent it in and it had
cleaning fluid on the focusing screen (on the inside, again, not
accessible). BTW, the turnaround time was almost 3 weeks. Anyway, I called
them back and complained about the rotten job they did and to make a long
story short it ended up becoming a finger pointing ordeal. So I ended up
scrapping the Canon and bought a Nikon F-3. I still have it and it works
just as good as when I first got it. I have not owned a Canon preoduct
since then.

Boy!

I broke a cap off my new $225 MSI video card, and on their site asked for an
RMA saying I broke it and will pay, I need someone to fix it.

They just sent me a regular RMA.

But it came back with the cap still off and another bent over.

I got back to them and they said, see if it works. It didn't.

I typed, my poor beautiful card is destroyed, would it be too much to ask
for a new one?

And they sent me a new one!

But it took weeks altogether. They don't work on an RMA after they receive
it for 2 weeks.

Some of those RMA repair people must lie to get in.
