Windows XP strips "harmful" attachments

Windows XP removes picture attachments from Outlook
Express mail messages. This occurs even though I am
merely sending the attachment from my Professional 2000
equipped computer to my XP equipped computer

Windows XP doesn't do anything to the attachments.
Outlook express does. It has a security setting you need to change.
In oe: tools, options, security, uncheck: do not allow attachments..........

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:

It is a facility of OE now set on by default - in its Tools - Options -
Security, the check box 'do not allow attachments to be saved or opened
that might contain a virus.'. There ought to be separate settings for
Open and Save - but no
