Windows XP Service Pack 1a

Does the boxed retail version of Windows XP include Service Pack 1a. I've
tried to find SP1a online but no online retailer will say which version they
are selling. Is there a difference in UK product code numbers.

(I have no intention of spending hours downloading 30 to 134 MB from
Microsoft's website every I need to reinstall the OS on a clean HDD and
there is no indication of them providing a free upgrade CD. )

Are you still living in the stone age, re Yasono? You need 500K or higher
Broadband connection or ADSL these days not 56K modems!

Me like your running doggie? What is it? A terrier? She looks cute. Do you
take her to bed with you at night to provide you solace in your loneliness?

56K only.

Is the Windows XP CD Rom bootable and will it partition and format a new HDD
drive or do I need extra software ?

What do you think a "but I have a cable modem" implies.

Well I see you've been watching Crufts then.

That makes two accurate predictions of the winners I made last night and the
Whippet was from a field of 7.

What other predictions have you made of late apart from Crufts results?

I bet you within six months you will be shouting EX-TER-MI-NATE
KA-RA-MAN-LIS.

As we say in Turkish, "Karamanin koyunu, sonradan cikar oyunu!" And don't
ask me to translate this for you. My charges are rather steep like a certain
part of my anatomy! :)

Bloody hell. This one is really still living in the stone age! I'll send you
a nice (!) pic that will take half an hour to download, then! That should
keep you from shouting EX-TER-MI-NATE for 30 minutes or so. Thanks heaven. A
bit of peace and quiet at last!!!

Do a search in Google.. there are sites there where you can download and
save SP1a as an .exe file..

Service Pack 1a has been around since Feb 2003, and SP1 since Sept 2002! The only difference between the two
is that SP1a lacks the Microsoft virtual machine for running java programs. You'd have to be ~exceptionally~
unlucky to end up with a version without either SP1 or SP1a included.

Tony.

Download it here (125MB):

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/network.asp

Right click and *Save target as*
....and then burn it to a disc.

Hark as this bozo. A few weeks ago he was asking for help now all of a
sudden he is an expert. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I've done it dozens of times
but I have a cable modem.

How can an old age pensioner afford such luxuries?
You a dial up modem?

Why do you ask? Do you want to *dial* in to him?

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

The SP only works if you do not have a pirated version of XP. So even if you
do get a copy it won't be any good to you.

choro-ni,

FYI, cable and DSL are not available in all areas, also, it will not fit
within the budget of all PC users.

Especially if they are OAP's (GAYson) or are dependant on Welfare benefits
