ok, the technical stuff first

using a dell dimension 9100 3ghz 256 graphic card raid0 set up etc...

installed Vista, didnt like it one bit so uninstalled until more mature and
tried to reinstall xp using dell recovery disk, Now I am getting a message
telling me that the boot disk configuration is at fault, boot path cannot be
found. I have done the usual stuff, edited the boot.ini files, but to no
avail, googled a few solutions as well but no good...any ideas?

actual message for info - Windows could not start because of a computer disk
hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk.
Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documentation
about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for
additional information

Did your Dell orginally have a restore partition on the hard drive. And
if so, did you keep it intact when you installed Vista? If so, you
should be able to use Dell's PC Restore technique by pressing Ctrl + F11
immediately after seeing the blue bar when you boot up.

If the above doesn't apply, please descrive your Dell disk. We need to
determine if it is one of their (Re-)installation CDs or a recovery
disk. Also, you need to make sure you boot off the CD! See:

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

And http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html (if this is an
installation CD)

Without having the boxen at hand, I would venture a guess that there is
a misconfigured BIOS. RAID can not be used on a single disk.
RAID = Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks.
