I upgraded Windows XP Home edition to Windows XP Pro edition to get better
features. During the upgrade I got a message that the file ALCXWDM.SYS was
needed. I couldn't find that file anywhere so I hit cancel. Why can't the
upgrade process automatically find that file? Anyhow the upgrade proceeded
and after some time, I got this error
"The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link
library MSDART.DLL. Even after hitting OK several times, the message would
not go away so I just switched off the machine. When I restarted the machine,
it again started setup and this time miraculously the error did not occur and
setup completed fine. What is this error? Now after setup COMPLETED
SUCCESSFULLY, I find that MS Office is not working properly! The Setup wizard
says that it preserves all settings during the upgrade. THEN WHY DID THIS
HAPPEN??? I now have to test each and every program on my machine to make
sure it works. I upgraded to Windows XP Professional because I wanted a
better operating system, not more problems! This just goes to prove something
I have repeatedly found - MICROSOFT NEVER TESTS ANYTHING PROPERLY!!!
