Windows XP Pro "Permissions"

I have a laptop running Win XP Pro and my desktop running Win XP Pro both on
"MSHOME" workgroup. I have shared all my hard drives on each fully. When I
try to view my "C" drive on my desktop from my laptop it says that I need to
check with my network administrator for permission to access.

In general what do I set on each PC to allow full access permissions going
either way from my laptop - desktop and visa versa?

Dave,

By Default XP has administrative shares for all drives. You can connect to
these drives using \\<computername>\<driveletter>$ For instance, when your
computername equals Fluffy, you can connect to the Admin shares by using:
\\Fluffy\C$ and \\Fluffy\D$ etc.

Remark:
This ONLY can be done when you have Administrator privelege on the target
machine. Best way to do this is using same account names and same passwords
on both of the computers.

Use accounts that have the necessary permissions assigned.

If they can connect to the web it's not the wisest move sharing everything 100%
including the %root%. It's no different than teasing a mean ol' junkyard dog and one
day you'll get torn to shreds.

Turn off simple File Sharing via:
Explorer or MyComputer menu bar > Tools > Folder Options.... > View tab.
Scroll down to the bottom, uncheck "SFS and click Ok > Ok.

Right click a folder.
In the popup menu click either "Sharing and Security" or Properties.
Click the Sharing tab, select to share folder, type in a name, click Permissions
button, add a user/group, click Ok, assign permissions, click Apply > Ok.

If it's a drive, after selecting to share it click the New Share button, type in a
name and assign it permissions.

When done with those click the Security and assign permissions.
