Simple Network Issue -- Need Help

C

In the past my laptop (xp home) and my Desktop (xp pro) have
communicated just fine using windows networking. Now I am having
problems:

1. When I click "View Workgroup Computers" on my laptop, the desktop
show up fine. However, when I double-click the desktop's icon, it
won't display the shared folders. Instead, it says I do not have
permission for access.

2. On my desktop, the problem is even worse. I can't even get my
laptop to show up. When I click "View Workgroup Computers," it says I
don't have persmission to access this resource.

I tried running the network setup again on both computers, and I have
verified they are both part of the same workgroup, called "WORKGROUP".

What is going wrong? How can I fix it?

TIA,
cpp

I don't have a firewall installed.
"my laptop (xp home) and my Desktop (xp pro) " have a firewall installed by
default. Especially after SP2.
So, have you checked Start, Settings, Windows Firewall?
