Windows XP has a Compatability mode ???

Windows XP has a Compatability mode. You can right click the
application you are running and run it under 98 emulation. 2000
Emulation, NT Emulation... Try that before bailing on your current
install.[i/]

Above taken from another help site...

Have XP home installed, was considering installing Win98 SE, which I
already own, (full version). Need to run several pieces of hardware
that will not run on XP.

Saw the top paragraph at another help site, BUT... no info on how to
use it.

Is Compatability mode a good thing?

I see that 98 CAN be installed after XP.

Which is my best route?

Thanks

Navigate to the executable file, i.e., my98seApp.exe. Right click,
select Properties, then the compatibility tab, select the OS. BTW, what
problems are you having with the Win98 apps?

Thanks Q, and Phil.

My scanner, my cd burner program, and Dazzle will not run on XP.
Software will not install. Got new drivers for CanoScan fb630U, and it
scans, but does not have same functions it had on 98.

Am considering installing 98 SE on my D drive.

Compatability mode is for running older software. It does nothing with
hardware.
To use it: right click the app, properties, compatability tab.

If you want a dual boot of win98 and xp and xp is already installed look

What functions is it missing? I thought my N650U had missing functions, but
instead it was me forgetting that it wasnt giving me a fax option since I
didnt have fax software installed on XP, and wasnt giving me a print option
as I hadnt installed a printer yet :) The only thing its missing now is
OCR capability for which I havent looked to see if there is an update on the
canon site because I only ever used it once anyway.

BTW be careful with cd burning software a friend had to reinstall WIn2K
after ignoring a warning from a win98 version of easycd creator not to
install it.

Been there done that... Had to reformat and reinstall XP because of CD
program.

I can copy on my scanner, but I don't have a preview any more. The
only function is PRINT. Did search for latest drivers for XP, and at
least I can make a copy, but can't change anything.

thanks
