Windows XP Excruciatingly Slow

The only changes made recently were installing SP-1, and
adding an e-mail address to OE6. I assume the Outlook
Express change is totally unrelated to my problem??

For a few days after installation, everything seemed okay;
but, yesterday I re-started and it's taking forever for
anything to load. Norton Internet Security is running
(and has been for a year or so) and, during re-start, it
stops everything while waiting on me to respond to
security questions. This is common, but the questions
usually pop up quickly during re-start.

I sat in front of my pc last night at least 2 hours
waiting on the questions and IE6 to start. Finally had to
leave. This morning, there was another question. I
answered and had to leave for work before anything else
would start up or more security questions were asked.

Does this make sense or do I need to provide more info?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/system Restore.
