Don't just convert the pound to US Dollars. Pricing in the US is
different.

Vista Ultimate in the US is going to be going for around $449.99 if all
the resellers are correct with pricing.
Vista Professional Edition is more or less analogous to Windows XP Pro and
should be retailing for $341 or so which is actually LESS than Windows XP
Pro was.

Vista Home Premium is probably going to sell for $269.00 which is $25.00
more than XP Home was, but a lot more of the features than it ever had...

Don't forget Vista Ultimate will also include quite a bit of goodies, with
such possilbities as free music, free movies, different level of product
and support. Microsoft has said that Vista Ultimate is aimed at high-end
PC users, geeks and such.

Britain is a member of the EU, right? Hmm... Nah, that wouldn't have
anything to do with it, right? ;-D

With Vista's new anti-piracy features, they won't be having much fun.
Software piracy is illegal and is a crime.

Well yes I know its a crime and I won't be downloading it. That doesn't
stop others from trying to crack it, and they will. Microsoft shouted loud
about the 360 being hard to crack and its already been done.
I will end up buying a cheaper OEM version

Outrageous. One can get a complete computer for that price!

I buy XP Pro for A LOT less than that.
Vista Home Premium is probably going to sell for $269.00 which is $25.00
more than XP Home was, but a lot more of the features than it ever had...

I can get Home for less than 100 USD.

You mean it's for the rich folks.

The cracks are already out and I hear they're "lovin' it".

Yep, so is murder but that doesn't stop King George for being
responsible for over 600,000 murders (genocide) in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If you will recall, it used to be illegal (and therefore a crime) to
possess alcohol. Breaking that law made it legal (and therefore not a
crime). It used to be illegal for blacks to sit at the front of the bus
or go to white schools. Yep, you guessed it, breaking those laws changed
them. Laws are not eternal or divine and are made to be broken
especially when they concern a monopoly like MS that doesn't care one
whit for it's paying customers. MS has no right to place its paying
customers in the cross fire in their cat and mouse game with crackers.
If you think someone is stealing from you, you call the proper
authorities and those proper authorities are NOT your paying customers.
What's pathetic is your undying support for them

And you're sure that Vista will come in an OEM version? Where did you
get this information?

I am not sure there will be one. However if there is one I will get it.
If not I will go with upgrade.
If full retail is the only option then they can piss off.

It has to be. There is no chance in hell I will pay £200 or whatever for
Home Premium. I would rather poke pins into my arteries. I can't see there
not being an OEM version though.

YOu will be able to get Vista Home Basic upgrade for $99.95
and no version of it will be $449.99 unless you buy it at the local 7/11
store or something. Even the Vista Ulitimate version will only be $259 for
upgrade or $399 for full version.

It has to come in OEM, that is what computer builders use. Never heard of
any commerical operating system not in an OEM version.

That's a branded OEM. We were talking about generic OEM versions.

"Only" $399? That's outrageous. You can build a computer for that price.
You can buy a mini Mac for only 200 more and it includes an operating
system.

Do you know the prices of the generic OEM versions or if there will even
be any?

Yea but you don't get a monitor with Mac Mini. By the time you add any
upgrades, your talking about a 1200 mac mini.

$USD399 is still outrageous. I already have a monitor, keyboard and
mouse and the mac mini comes with an OS, Tiger. What "upgrades" are you
talking about?

Roger that... maybe that's why MS is doing the anti-piracy thing... they
might figure that Vista pricing will push folks to piracy... dunno.

Beck,
According to the Amazon website, they are offering to email you with the OEM
price when they have it! So, I assume from that, there will be an OEM
version.
