Windows Vista Mail Contacts

Whenever I try to delete a contact by right clicking on the name, I receive
an immediate message that displays "Windows Explorer stopped working" It
then closes the contacts window that was opened and reverts back to the mail
window.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron

have you tried hitting the DELETE key instead of the right click.
I realize it does not address the problem, but might be a work around.

I also have the same problem and unfortunately hitting the delete key
produces the same result.

I have found a solution to delete a contact. Simply drag the contact you
want to delete to the recycle bin and it will be gone from your contact list.
Hope this helps!

Ok, that sounds good, but what about editing contacts? Trying to do that
shuts it down too. Any suggestions?

I think I have a solution...try click on the button that says edit when you
select the contact you want to edit. It works for me. Microsoft needs to fix
this damn right clicking bug. That pisses me off. Hope I helped. If not, then
good luck.

found a copy of mfc42.dll from a working Vista machine. (this was the dll
that was being reported in the event log)
copied it to the system32 folder (this can be a pain since it will not allow
you to replace the file)
to fix this copy run the following command from CMD
takeown /f c:\windows\system32\mfc42.dll
now right click the mfc42.dll and give full permissions to everyone. you
may have to add everyone first.
rename the mfc42.dll to mfc42.old
now you can copy and paste the new mfc42.dll into system32 folder
reboot
worked fine for me!
