Windows Update results in program failures

I'm on Windows 2000 Professional. Via Windows Update, I
automatically installed a number of updates:
KB824141
KB823182
KB826232
KB825119
KB828035
After installing them and restarting, I now have a big
problem.

If I click on a document, Microsoft Word gives me the Blue
Screen of Death (with the message up for such a short time
that I can't tell you what it says), and the computer
restarts. If I start Word from the start menu, it's OK -
only to crash again if I try to open a document. If I try
to open Adobe Photoshop at all, i get the same Blue Screen
of death.

Any ideas? I tried to uninstall KB824141, and i lost my
desktop entirely until I re-installed it...
