Win2K Update problems

K

Kevin

Regarding the patches that I installed Friday evening, I
have been able to determine that there were 4 patches
installed:

1. KB823182 - replaces a filed called cryptui.dll
2. KB824141 - replaces a bucnh of files including
kernel32.dll, winlogin.exe (hmmm...), and cmd.exe.
3. KB826232 - changes some registry settings
4. KB828035 - same as #3.

In looking at these patches, I suspect that patch #2 may
be the problem, given that a new winlogin.exe file was
installed. I am on the phone, on hold, with MS Tech
Support now.

I was curious if someone who has these update problems
also knows which patches they just installed.

TIA,

Kevin

I replied to your other message. I downloaded SP4 and
other security patches (haven't verified exactly which)
and the same thing happened. I have no USB devices
installed. I'm in the Recovery Console, trying to disable
the right service that might be causing it to hang.

Anything new on yours?

I would uninstall the patches until the problem was
resolved, you would then know the "bad patch" causing the
problem

Re install the "good patched"

I had a similar issue a while back after installing a number
of unpdates, if you cannot do from control panel add/remove
programmes you may be able to do from within c:/winnt
folder - the updates and patches are ID'ed fairly clearly
