Windows Update has encountered an error.

I have been unable to download the XP2 install. I
continue to recieve the following erroe message:
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page.
I have resently restored my system and feel that might be
part of the problem. However, I have received one update
since that time, but cannot install the new service
pack. Any ideas?

Hi

Fyi, microsoft.public.windowsupdate is a better newsgroup for Windows
Update questions.

Anyway, you could try this and see if it helps:

Click Start >> Run >>
Type the follow command in the Open box.
"net.exe stop wuauserv" (w/o quotes)
Press Ok

Repeat the same for the following commands:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Anyway, I never uses Windows Update to install a service pack.

To install SP2 without using WU:

SP2 is available at the Microsoft Download Center
(standalone "network" version, 266 MB):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a

If you think that download is to large, you can get the same
file on a CD from Microsoft.

Also, before installing SP2, you should take a look at the
