Windows update for RC1 bug ???

Will Schuitman

I have had RC1 installed for almost a week now to be exact it was installed
on the 8th of this month.
As I'm aware this is beta software and it is to be expected that there are a
few bugs I usually make a point of it to check my update history on a daily
basis this gives me an idea of what issues are being addressed.
But since I have installed RC1 there have been no updates at all the only
updates that are in my update history are the updates that were installed on
the day I installed RC1 there are 4 updates all dated the 8th of this month.
This seemed to be very strange seeing the beta2 release had upadtes almost
everyday (mainly definitions for defender)
So far I have only checked by clicking on "check for updates" to see if I
could manually retrieve any updates this process shows that the connection
to the server seems to work and no errors come up and finishes with the
notification saying "no updates available"
Can anybody confirm that there actually haven't been any updates since the
8th ?
or is this a bug ?

The update system seems to work correct.
I got a realtek hd audio update yesterday, so everything seems to work.
Don't expect updates everyday... ;-)

Thanks for the reply
I didn't expect them everyday and the lack of updates could well be because
this build has far less bugs than the beta2 version.
However this doesn't explain why there haven't been windows defender
definition updates for almost a week
I'm not really panicing about it as everything seems to be running very well
otherwise I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and see what happens

Will;
Updates for a Microsoft Beta are not the norm.
Other than Windows Defender. do not expect any.
There will be the occasional exception, and they would probably be on Patch
Tuesday (2nd Tuesday of each month), but don't expect them.

Instead of updates, later builds cover existing issues.

Jupiter,
That may be the case; mostly; but if you remember; MSFT did send patches
on 5384; 5 or 6 of them; if I remember correctly.
Later builds; also; to those not involved in the private beta; which is most
people in here;basically means;; At RTM.

Jeff;
Most if not all of those patches were to test the Windows Update and had no
substance.
If Windows/Microsoft update offers patches for some, they are available for
all regardless if they are CPP, Tech Beta etc.
If an update is only for a specific group, that group will have a unique URL
to access the updates.

Jupiter;
Not to beg to differ; but I believe;and I'd have to look back; at the
KB's; but I think those patches did have revelance.
And; thanks for the patch clarification; I was;however;speaking of "future"
Vista builds.
From you; if I may; "Instead of updates, later builds cover existing
issues."
Later builds; to most in here; I would think to mean : RTM; as this is
supposedly "RC1"

Jeff is correct. From this point on expect patches to come down to correct
issues and provide driver refreshes as manufacturers respond to the
automated error reporting system. There is very little time left for
interim build releases to do these things. RTM is only six to eight weeks
away.

Yes, I like it, but I may have a defect in the mobo that prevents XP x64
from running when a second pair of memory sticks are inserted. But it is a
great system.
