Windows Stop Error after Laptop screen change on TOSHIBA

R

Richhall

Hi

I broke my laptop screen on my TOSHIBA Satellite Pro and so bought a
new one. My original one was a cloudy screen as the new one is a tru
brite screen. Everything seems ok, except occasionally I get a blue
screen and my laptop restarts. I've run the TOSHIBA PC DIagnostics
and everything passes. Has anyone any idea what I need to do to stop
this happening please, I'm assuming its due to the new screen, or is
it a memory issue or something?

Cheers

What details appear in the Blue Screen ? The data appears a little
cryptic but has information that helps to explain why the unrecoverable
fault happened.

You message is a little unclear about the LCD panel replacement. Was
the screen replaced at the Toshiba service center or are you using an
external monitor ? If you sent the notebook in for repair it's possible
you have a replacement unit with you original drive switched into it. I'd
check the S/N or Vendor codes to make sure you have the same unit.
It's possible you've received a Factory refurbished unit that may have
other issues.

Hi

I bought the LCD display and installed it myself. It is the following
type:

Model: Toshiba Satellite A100 seires, Satellite A105 series

Size: 15.4" WXGA 1280X800

Condition: Brand New (Never Used), Direct From Manufacture

*SMT provide the highest quality of the LCD screen in the world.

1. Zero Dead pixel for all SMT LCD screen. Others vendors may have
some Dead pixel.

2. Zero spot for all SMT LCD screen. Others vendors may have some
spots.

I have an A100 so they said it was the correct type, only difference I
could see was my new one is a clearer display. Mymanual says the
original was a TFT display. Apart from that everything in the manual
is as the one I bought.

Unfortunately, the blue screen appears and then the PC turns off
immediately and reboots, then when it comes back up I send the error
log to microsoft and they send me to a microsoft webpage. Are the
errors logged anywhere?

I have looked in event viewer. I have a lot of errors saying CPLIB ::
General - Invalid Parameter for ati2mtag which I guess is something to
do with my display. I also have found when it bluescreend and got
this from the system log.

Error code 1000007f, parameter1 00000008, parameter2 80042000,
parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

which Microsft has as:

Product: Windows Operating System

Source: System Error
Version: 5.2
Symbolic Name: ER_KRNLCRASH_LOG
Message: Error code %1, parameter1 %2, parameter2 %3, parameter3 %4,
parameter4 %5.

Explanation
A blue screen (Stop error) was reported. The message contains details
about the error. A matching event with Event ID 1001 might also appear
in the event log. This matching event displays information about the
specific error that occurred.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you have
solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants of the
Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

What Error / Warning reports ( if any ) appear in the System log in
Event Viewer when you last booted the machine?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

It is only 1 year old, if that.

Thanks for your help.If it happens again (which I'm sure it will!)
I'll get the details as I've disabled the auto restart. Cleaned up my
hard disk etc as well just in case.

I don't think any of these reports save the last relate to your number 1
issue.

Event ID: 29
Common and inconsequential.

Event ID: 17
Linked to Event ID:29

Event ID: 7000 CT Device Query service
More interesting. Image scanning. Are you a Dentist or something like
that using specialist software? What is the status of the software?
Still installed or uninstalled?

Event ID: 7000 Creative Service for CDROM
Could be connected with the previous error. Leaves me wondering whether
you have uninstalled something leaving remnants causing start up
processes not able to complete?

Event ID: 2505
A search of the Registry to identify the application represented by this
guid 8C0AA1CA-B275-4F27-A8D5-49B7EECDAF74 would be my starting point.

Event ID: 30013
An internet connection issue probably a consequence of Event ID: 2505.

Event ID: 1003
A BSOD error probably part of your number 1 issue.

Hi

I've searched the registry and it identifies:

Type

REG_SZ

and then a long name after DEVICE. What should I do with this info?
Know I shouldn't really mess with the registry,

Answer to your question is see what it throws up in Google. However,
it's not obvious in this case what the interface is for. However, one
error rep[ort implies that you have two computers with the same name.
What does your Network comprise? What do they connect to?

Have you bought DivX or is it on Trial? Do you have the original
programmes on CD or were they dowloaded from the net?

When you run DivX what demands does it make on memory?

How large is your hard disk ( or partition ) containing your pagefile
and how much free space.

These questions are directed at determining how reliant the system is on
using the pagefile. You can monitor this with pagefilemon.

Use page file monitor to observe what is the peak usage. Start it to run
immediately after start-up and look at the log. Pagefilemon takes
snapshots. You need to run it at the beginning of the session at then
run it again at intervals throughout the sessions. The log is Pagefile
log.txt. If you right click on the file in Windows Explorer and select
Send to, Desktop (Create Shortcut). The same applies to
XP_PageFileMon.exe.

A small utility to monitor pagefile usage:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_pagefilemon.htm

Note programs using undo features, particularly those associated with
graphics and photo editing, require large amounts of memory so if you
use this type of programme check these first observing how the page
usage increases when they start and whether the usage decreases when you
close the programme.

I have created two boot disks from different places, the memtest one
and a microsoft one. Its not always been divx, sometimes different
programs. I am not on a network, its simply a wireless internet
connection, and its just home computing. I did download DivX from the
DivX website. Hard Disk is 55GB with 9GB free. THanks for all your
help so far, will do as suggested to try and find where the error is
occuring and will do a reboot with one of these disks.

Your free disk space is minimal. Please confirm it is a single
partition.

It is likely that an allocation of 12% has been made to System Restore
on your C partition which is over generous. I would reduce it to 700
mb. Right click your My Computer icon on the Desktop and select System
Restore. Place the cursor on your C drive select Settings but this
time find the slider and drag it to the left until it reads 700 mb and
exit. When you get to the Settings screen click on Apply and OK and
exit.

Quite a lot of BSOD reference in Google.

Can you post a copy of the Stop Error Report. It's the way to see which
are the same problem.

What Sound Card do you have. Is any part built into the laptop screen?

Can you hear the fan?

Try running HD Tune(freeware). This utility records the temperature of
the hard drive if the BIOS allows for it.

Download and run it and see what it turns up.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard )
and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy
to Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Also do a full surface
scan with HD Tune.

You have said it is a Toshiba Satelite Pro. Can you expand on this?
