Windows Sound Recorder

My PC is Gigabyte P4 1.7ghz with 512mb RAM and has XP Pro installed. I am
trying use the window's sound recorder to record short bites of
information. When the Record button is clicked, it does not record. It
will play wav files fine.
I have changed mics and that has not helped. I have an older Hard Drive
that has XP Pro setup also and changed the hard drives and on the older Hard
Drive, the recorder works great. This tells me that the mic is working and
I have everything plugged in correctly.

Does anyone have any idea why it will not record on this HardDrive?

Thank You
