Windows Reads DVDs But Won't Write To Them

My newly installed Windows XP SP 2 OS, that has all the updates, will read
both CD's and DVD's on my new LG DVD/CD driver and will write to CD's.
However, it will not write to DVD's.

It's supposed to be able to write to all DVD formats. LG tells me that there
are no unique drivers for this model. They say it's a plug-and-play model
that uses a generic driver that is supposed to be part of Windows.

I've heard that DVD's can be tempormental about what media they'll write to,
so I've tried writing to a Fujifilm DVD+RW disc and to a Verbatim DVD-RAM,
but no luck.

I've searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base and read dozens of DVD related
newsgroup posts without finding a problem that is exactly like mine.

Does anybody ahve a suggestion?

You need a 3rd party program to write to DVD's. DVD burning is not included native to XP.
