Windows Mobile Device Center randomly fails to recognize device

Hi All,
Thanks for reading my post, and to any of you who choose to respond, thank
you for your consideration.
I am having a problem with WMDC, where it randomly fails to recognize my
device, forces me to create a new partnership, and erases data from my
calendar and contacts created since my last successful sync.

It seems to be independent of my device, and it's operating system. (It has
happened with my Cingular 8125, running WM5, and my ATT 8525, running WM6
Pro.) It doesn't seem to have anything to do with reboots of my desktop, or
soft-resets of my device.

I have gone through the WMDC troubleshooting FIPs, and read many posts in
this and other forums, but not had any luck. I tried a clean reinstallation
of WMDC 6.1 with my firewall down and antivirus disabled. I am now waiting
for it to happen again. (It's intermittent.)

This problem is not only annoying, but is making me doubt my decision to
switch to a PDA from a paper calendar. Any advice or insight would be
appreciated.

I believe basically everybody with PDA will have problem syncing with
Outlook. Mine was initially working but somehow it changed by itself. Now I
can no longer sync with any data like contacts, calendar, notes, etc.
How come Microsoft is keeping this major problem quiet?
I have Vista home premium desk top, Mobile device center 6.1 installed and
Dell Axim 50V with Mobile 2003 second edition installed syncing thru cradle.
I also lost all data in my PDA while I was trying to sync with Outlook.
I have talked to MS support out of India but it was total waste.

Thanks for your reply, Raymond. It raises the possibility that my problem may
be related to Outlook. I am running Outlook 2007, and have run diagnostics on
it
with no indication of any problem. One odd thing though, is scanpst does not
seem to be a valid command on my system, even though it was part of the Vista
WMDC Troubleshooting FIP.--
