Repair / reinstall Windows Mobile Device Center

Vista Ultimate x64 SP1

I am trying to repair the Windows Mobile Device Center -
When I try running C:\Windows\WindowsMobile\Setup.exe the program wil lnot
run, I get a fatal error.

I downloaded the Windows Mobile Decive Center 6.1 for x64 and tryed to
install it, it installs and seems to update all of the drivers in the
C:\Windows\WindowsMobile root, but when I try to connect my Samsung Saga i770
Mobile 6.1 device, the network adapter called "Microsoft Windows Mobile
Remote Adapter" installs properly, but the Portable device fails and leaves
an entry for "Windows Mobile-based device" with a yellow ! (bang) on it.

I have uninstalled these, re-connected I get teh same result.
I have uninstalled the 6.1 x62 driver update, same results.
I even tried system restore - but that did nothing - in part all of the
restore points we too recent since I have uninstalled and re-installed liek
100 times.

My best conclusion is that my core 6.0 WMDC is corrupted somehow.

So I was wondering how I get rid of it, then re-install from Vista or
download or something - to start over - before applying the 6.1 driver update.

(As a sidebar Verizon Wireless has tried several things - the issue seems to
be something specific to my Vista Machine and something is broke, I just
cannot figure out how to redo the WindowsMobile. And everything I have found
points to the setup.exe that I mentioned but it will not run.

Please advise.
Thanks
J
