==================
Which version of Windows are you running?

Which version of Windows Media Player did you install?

I am using Windows XP professional service pack 2. I tried loading mp 11,
mp10 and I get the same error message every time. I am wondering if I am
having a problem because the player was never on this computer. It was custom
buit by a guy my friend knows and he is currantly unavailable. I hope this
information helps.

I can't find the servicepackfiles. Now I'm thinking maybe I only have
Windows XP professional and not service pack 2. Sorry I'm so dumb about this.

====================
Right click your My Computer icon and choose...Properties.

On the General tab you can see the Windows version and
service packs

Mine says:

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

If you do not have SP2, you can download
it from the following site:

Download Windows XP SP2
http://tinyurl.com/6ubys

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.

It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.

And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.

I guess you are looking for wmploc.dll?

Do a search and you might find it.

Start / Search / All files and folders /
More advanced options / Check the boxes;
System, Hidden, Subfolders...

Enter wmploc.dll in the all or part
of the file name field.

Search.

Good luck, I hope the fix works for you.
If it does not...you may need to seek the
services of a tech.

Thanks, I did do this and I found it but it still didn't work. I was reading
some other discussions that mentioned conflicts with programs such as power
dvd. Could this be my problem? I do use power DVD and it works great for
movies but when I want to view videos on Yahoo Launch Music Videos it says I
need windows media player. I guess I might just have to give up non this if
I can't find a solution

Sometimes it's hard to tell what the cause of a
problem is but I doubt that it's PowerDVD.

There's an older version of WMP that you may
have on your system...go to...Start / Run and type:
"mplayer2" then press enter.

If it launches, maybe you can use it until you solve
the issue with the newer version.

Also try going to...Start / Run...and type:
"wmplayer" and press enter. This is
a command that should launch the newer
WMP if it's on your system.

As far as windows media player, it seems I don't have it at all. I don't
know what else to do.
