Windows media player won't show video

I got my computer a little over a year ago (when I had windows media player
10). I have never been able to play dvd's through the windows media player
and the dvd player that came on the computer is terrible (my computer is an
acer and the media player that came with it is called arcade). I put windows
media player 11 on the computer, but it still maintains a black screen while
playing the audio part of the dvd. I have tried reinstalling the program and
have paid to download extra video plugins (InterWin DVD&MP3 pack) desigend to
be used with the player. But non of these things have solved the problem. I
cannot seem to find any settings that turn off the video and this problem is
not address in the FAQ on the web site. If anyone has any idea what else I
can try please help me.

If I were you. Get a PowerDVD software or Nero and leave Windows Media Player
just for mp3s, wmv, wma, etc. Performance and quality wise, it's good. Since
it was designed for playing DVDs.
