Windows Management Instrumentation software

I am trying to access system information via Start | All Programs |
Accessories | System Tools | System Information. The System Information
window opens, but the right hand side reports "Can't Collect Information"
then "Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows
files may be moved or missing.

This is a laptop running XP Professional SP 2.

I suspect that my system has a virus. For instance, my taskbar and Outlook
themes have changed and I can't change them back. I had the green Start
button on a blue taskbar, now they're both a gray sort of color.

I use ZoneAlarm (free), Avast (free), and SpySweeper (paid license). I also
regularly scan with AdAware and Spybot. Avast and SpySweeper have not
detected any malware.
