When i try to add a new contact it the box pops up for 1/2 a second and then
disappears. Does anyone know the fix for this. I already lost all my contacts
and emails on outlook so i am looking to try and use this now.

If the toolbar in Contacts doesn't have all the options, then the
folder type for Contacts is incorrect. Try this:
Open Windows Contacts. Right-click somewhere in that
empty white space to the far right. Select Customize This Folder,
click the little triangle, and from the dropdown list select Contacts,
then Apply, OK, then close the Contacts window and open it again.

There are two other possibilities for that problem.

1) You have Outlook 2000 (or some remnants thereof) installed.
2) You are running a non-compatible antivirus such as Norton,
McAfee, or Trend Micro.

Does any of that ring a bell?

Both are likely, i still got outlook 2000 on there and i am running norton 360.

Then you're in big trouble! :)
Outlook 2000 installs WAB files that cause Windows Mail Contacts
to malfunction. I don't know if this will kill Outlook 2000, but as a
minimum you would have to do the following:
Go into the C:\Windows\System32 folder and rename wab32.dll to
wab32.dll.old and wab32res.dll to wab32res.dll.old.

As for Norton antivirus, as a minimum its email scanning must be
disabled, for the reasons explained here:

Thanks Gary,

It worked and i didnt have to touch the Norton antivirus.

Again thanks for your help

I do have one other question, everytime i try to add a contact to Windows
Mail it says it already exists but i have never added it. I could only think
it is picking some up from the Outlook contacts i had before it crashed. Is
there a place they are kept?

Good to hear that the Outlook WAB fix worked for you.

It is possible that Windows Mail imported some contacts from the Outlook
address book. You can go to C:\Users\yourname\Contacts to see what is
there. If you want, you can delete that whole Contacts folder and start over
from scratch.

Thanks Gary,

I got that problem fixed. Now i have a new issue, got to love these machines
sometimes.

I have switched from a dialup connection to sattelite connection and am
having trouble again. I am able to recieve emails but can not seem to get
anything to go out, any suggestions.

Thanks again

You probably get an error message when you try to send.
Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without that error message.

Here is the message, it looked like maybe it was a bad email address but i
have sent to it from another unit to check and he has received it. So i am
sure that it has something to do with the configuration of the email setup
