If I send an e-mail from my other computer (XP running outlook) to myself.....
The e-mail plus attachments is recived Ok on the XP computer.
The e-mail does not have the attachments when recieved on the Vista / Windos
mail computer.

I DO get attachments if e-mail is sent from someone else.

Update:
If I change the setting in Outlook from HTML to Plain Text, the attachments
do get through.

Is this going to be a problem when anyone sends me an HTML e-mail??

The problem is that WM does not understand Outlooks RTF, you will not have
problems with HTML mail that is not from Outlook.

OK,
OUtlook can send as HTML, RTF and PLAIN.

Only PLAIN gets the attachment legible.

Am I going to have problems when receiving e-mails from any of the millions
of Outlook users who send me an attachment as part of an HTML or RTF e-mail??

I would actually prefer to use Outlook on my Vista computer, and although I
have installed Office XP Professional on the machine, only Outlook is unable
to run. Zero help from Vista. All I get is "Outlook has stopped working"

Any ideas there?

I have never used Outlook.

As I said, WM does not understand Outlooks RTF.

I'm not 100% sure but I think to remember that Outlook XP is not
compatible with Vista.

You might ask on this in an Outlook group

This is a well-known, "will not fix" bug.

When sending from OL to someone using Windows Mail, Outlook Express, or
Windows Live Mail as their default Mail Client, only send using Plain Text
format, especially if there's an attachment.

RTF is best used within an organization where all users use OL and in an Exchange Server environment.

Fyi...for the home user..Outlook can be the blame when messages are composed in RTF.

Afaik, since OL03....RTF is **not** the default configuration message composition format. One has to physically override Plain Text
or Html and change to RTF and **also** override Outlook's setting to convert Rich Text to Html(if RTF is used by the sender).

Separately, Outlook also has other options that need to be configured properly if these attachments are pictures to be displayed in
OL(prompt to download content etc...configure in the Security settings).

Finally, Outlook does restrict certain attachments..which you are probably aware of(a list can be found in Outlook's Help or Online
Help)

Fyi... I can verify that OL03 and OL07 both function in Vista for Html and Plain Text sending/receiving non restricted attachments
when RTF is not manually configured to be the composition format.

I can't guarantee, but try this :
Tools > Options > Read. UN-check " Read all messages in plain text " > OK

Adding...
Rich text is no longer the default composition in Outlook, Html is.
If the default(Html) is manually overridden to be Rich Text reconfigure to compose in Html or Plain text and then modify the
sending Mail format for the Internet to convert Rich Text to Html.

W

This usually occurs when Outlook is configured to compose and send in Rich Text.

Ensure that Outlook is configured to compose in plain text or Html(OL menu/Tools/Options/Mail Format) and configuring the sending
mail format to convert Rich Text text to Html(OL Menu/Tools/Options/Mail Format/Internet).

There are other reasons for and attachment not being present or not directly accessible.
1. Outlook blocks certain attachment file types regardless of the above settings..The Outlook Help file can be searched for a list
of blocked file types.
2. Web filters that take precedent for an account stripping attachments.
3. The original email delivered as an single attachment to a notification email..
e.g. Yahoo accounts(if the antispam/av system is down or not operating the a notification message may be sent with the entire
email as a single attachment. The attachment in the notification message normally includes the original email and its original
attachemnt(s).
