Windows Mail as Default

I'm having a strange issue. I installed office 97 on my Vista machine, then
uninstalled it. Now, due to outlook 97s installation, Windows Mail is no
longer my default mail handler. I can't seem to make it be the default
anymore. Tools->Options->Make Default will does not work. Any ideas?

P.S. In set program access and computer defaults, the only mail option
available in any of the configurations is 'use my current email program.'

Windows Mail missing from the default programs listing in Windows Vista:

Click Start, select Default Programs
Click Set program access and computer defaults
Click Custom, and select Windows Mail
Click OK

Then, follow these steps:

Click Set your default programs
Select your mail client from the list
Click Set this program as default
Click OK

Thanks for your quick response.
Windows Mail doesn't show up in the list in Set program access and computer
defaults -> Custom, only use my current email program. Any other thoughts?

Okay, forget what I just said. I got the registry fix and that solved it all.
