Windows boots normally and loads with the xp logo, and then when it
gets to where the login screen should be, it goes black, i know the
computers on, as the power light is on, and ive tried a system
restore, and that said i need to free memory, then i freed about ten
times what it said it needed, yet still said i need more free space,
any advice how to get the login screen to load?

"freed about ten times"....Say what...Freeing up memory use(s) will/would
require most likely ending some procceses,or ending some programs,or adding
some more ram memory...However,on start up,tap the F8 key, select safe mode,
enter xp as administrator,R.click my computer, properties, advanced, virtual
memory,
change button, set to:"let system manage" from user defined, click set 2X,close
out.A restart should be prompted if done properly....

Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration from the Safe Mode menu? What
changes occurred to the system between when the system booted ok and now?

I am an on-site computer tech. I had 2 customers yesterday with this same
problem. Do you have the latest version of Spy Sweeper on your computer? Did
you just install the 2/13/07 Windows Automatic Updates?

From my troubleshooting, Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration
produced the same problem. My solution was to do a manual System Restore from
the Recovery Console. Re-boot and uninstall Spy Sweeper, install Windows
Defender, and re-install the updates via windowsupdate.com
