"windows is already activated" but won't let me login

O

oolong

i recently installed a new primary hard drive on my
computer. the first hard drive i had was running on an
edition of XP that upgraded from win 98. it wouldn't let
me install this on the new HD so i installed the version
of XP that came with the computer i'm using now, that was
shipped along with it from Dell. upon installing it gave
me a countdown "30 days to activate your windows
software" and i clicked on it many times but it always
said "windows is already activated, press ok to exit",
but it would come back. after 30 days had passed, it
started saying "activation grace period has expired" but
it still wouldn't let me activate. there was no box in
which to input an activation code or anything. i
restarted my computer and now it won't let me run windows
in anything besides Safe Mode, wtf? the technical support
page was no help either. please assist!!! :(
