Windows Installer MSI Setup

Guest

Hi,

I'm hoping that someone can help me with this situation as I've exhausted
all that I know. I keep getting the following messages each time I reboot or
turn on my machine..............................

Windows Installer Preparing to Install.........................
Setup - This MSI must be launched through setup.

I'm also getting other Windows Installer errors.

I've tried most recommendations on this website but all have failed so far.
Can anyone please help me with this???

I have a HP Pavilion machine loaded with Windows Media Center Edition 5.1 SP1.

I'd appreciate any and all help.

1st go to run, type:services.msc In msc, scroll down to installer, double cick
on it,then select auto run from the manual position its probably now in,then
select, start the service,close-out.Thiers also an updated installer for xp
SP1
or lower, its 3.0 from 2.0,SP2 already includes it,you'll find that at
downloads,
use the scroll bar and locate windows xp,search results by date. You can/might
even install xp cd,exit the info page,go to run, type:cmd In cmd type:
Sfc /Scannow When the graph is thru,type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,then
type:EXIT Restart computer,remove xp cd.

Start>run>services.msc, scroll down to "Windows Installer" and double
click it. Stop the service if it is running, set the startup type line
to disabled>apply
Delete the contents of the temp folders here:-
C:\Windows\temp

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

Start>run>>services.msc, scroll down to "Windows Installer" and double
click it.Reenable it-make the startup to manual.Restart.

Now close all running programs-specially antivirus software and retry
installing.

Hi Andrew. First off I want to thank you for your help. Unfortunately it
did not resolve the problem though. I tried all you said, even including
taking those files from the CD and reinstalling but I still get that same
error when I reboot. Do you know of anything else or other things to try???

Thanks, Jessica

Hi S! First off, I want to say thanks for providing the information below.
Unfortunately it did not resolve the problem. I tried all you said below but
I still get the same error message when I reboot. It comes up 3 different
times actually. Do you know of anything else or have other suggestions?

Thanks, Jessica
