Windows Installer Messages on startup and Document Viewer

Recently when starting up, I get a message box "Preparing to Install Windows
Installer". (I have been using Windows for years, this is a new issue).
This runs for some time, then is joined by another window, "Document Viewer",
which wants me to install a cd program. I have had HP Printer for some
months; this is a new message also. Ultimately, I have to use the 3 finger
salute to get out of it all and start normally. I would like to get back to
normal startup, desktop immediately, and get to work. I am using Windows XP.
Have done backup when this first started, going back a few weeks, but the
message still comes up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

To: Clubwoman,
I am having the exact same problem. for the past 2 days and can't find any
answers anywhere. The website link that Mr Grey gave does not help because I
am afraid to use it. It sounds like it could remove things that I don't want
it to. Please post again if you find an answer. I have been on hold with
Dell for 2 hours!!! THanks....
