Windows Installer Hang

Every time I start windows I get the windows installer pop up and it just
hangs. I have to hit cancel many times to get it off my screen. In turn it
often closes my AntiV (PC Cillian)
Any ideas on what may be causing this and a fix for it?

Fudge!!
Now when I enter windows , when it allows all my programs to open, I get the
windows installer hang for just a few seconds and then lose my AntiV program
again... AV says it is intializing but evidently fails...
Next idea anyone?

Try running the a/v software from Safe Mode, or schedule a boot scan.
You may be infected.

Thanks Joe. I think I at least have it temporarily resolved, again. I ran
regedit and fixed a line according to manual fix on the pages you provided at
an earlier date.
I also removed PC Cillan and am now trying Mcafee. So far no bugs/viruses
found. I have to say I was about to toss this laptop out the window this
morning when I couldnt access windows at all! LoL
TY so much for all your help!

I might add that I read there was a problem with Direct X in windows, went
and d/led recent updates too. May have very well been at least part of the
problem!
