Installer problem

Sorry to be a pest but this HD swap/clone has been a pain.
Now I find that when I update a program online "Taxcut" I get the files OK
but Windows installer gives me this:
preparing to install
extracts some files
preparing to install remains in window for about 30 seconds or so
Windows installer closes and I loop back to Taxcut telling me updates
available.
If I then close Taxcut I see that update not successfully installed.

On last try, 4 of 4, I noticed and heard my "A" floppy drive chatter. It
shouldn't even be involved.
I am running XP sp3 and tried twice with my Avast turned off. Tons of memory
and disk space.
Is there a basic way to reinstall or repair "Windows installer" from online
or Dell recovery disk. Could I get a suggestion of a small safe program to
try installing using Windows Installer to see if its Taxcut related?
Thanks once again
Mel

Locate, download and install Windows Installer Cleaner. This should
be able to remove that "Taxcut" entry in the Windows Installer
"database." Then, you will have to re-install "Taxcut" as its data
and Installer entry has been "damaged."

Got it and it worked like a charm. Thank you for information. That's a
program I will surely save.

I would not leave it installed. It is just "too" dangerous as it can
remove other entries. Uninstall it after your "fix" had work. You
could always re-install it the next time you need it.

Good idea. I have the installer filed with my other installers "program
installers" file for next need.
Tks again Mel
