Windows Installer error 1721

Trying to delete McAfee from my computer, I only get the message that a
Windows installer module isn't accessible, error 1721, contact the Support
Center. I don't manage via Add/Delete program, nor via the original disc, nor
via McAfee Cleanup, all refering to Windows installer. What can I do to get
rid of McAfee on my computer?

Well, I know you don't really need to hear it, but you are probably better
off just saving data and rebuilding. I recomend the "FAST Wizard" to help
with that. (If you have a net connection for storing data, this is especially
good)

I get this same error mesage when I try to install anything new after trying
to uninstall a program called "Mailshell Anti-spam Outlook Addin" I have gone
intot he registry and deleted anything with the "Mailshell" word in it and
have cleaned and compressed the registry. The Add/Delete programs doesn't see
a trace of anything left and all the files are gone from the c:\Program Files
directory. How can you remove the trigger that tells Windows Installer to
look for such a file?

I ran the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and found nothing that looked
like the "mailshell" installer or files. Everything was just the normal
windows update and jave stuff. It seems that there is a file, or list of
files that contain items for the Windows Installer to use. I checked in the
c:Windows\installer directory for anything that related tot he "mailshell"
and found nothing. Where else should I look?

It would do no harm to reinstall OE. I would try it to see if something in an
OE dependancy was changed by this mailshell.

Search for msoe50.inf(The default location is C:\Windows\Inf folder) Right
click the Msoe50.inf file, and click Install. Insert XP CD when prompted,
Browse to the I386 folder, click Open, then OK.

I am still getting the error after reinstalling OE. As a side note, I tried
to uninstall the Java "JRE" and got the error. I tried to update my
accounting software "Peachtree" and got the error. It doesn't seem to be tied
to the Microsoft Outlook that I am using for a mail program, but to the
Windows Installer. Any other thoughts? Is there a file or log that I can dump
to look at to determine where the Windows Installer is getting the item to
try and install?

My guess would be that you are getting some Permissions error in the
registry. You might try a reinstall of the Installer, but that probably won't
work either, if it's the registry.
Running a downloader Installer install runs into the same issue. You might
try Windows Defender. It's Software Explorer can look at a lot of those
issues.

Is there some way or program that will search the registry and find this
"mailshell" installer. I tried running regedit and searching for mailshell. I
found a few items and deleted them with not fix for my installer issue. I
have run ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com) which seemed to be a fairly good
cleaner, but it did not detect this invalid installer.

probably have stopped other problems from popping up.
